Tubman is a Read Write News Reader

The Tubman news reader is an easy to use social RSS feed reader that gives members the ability to read and share news items with followers. News feeds can be categorized and appear in an uncluttered time line. Members have the option of viewing news from all sources or from a selected category.

Once an item is shared into a timeline, additional content types can be linked to it. For example, if a news item about Nelson Mandela is shared into a timeline, a member can then link videos or other content to this news item. All news feeds are public. This means that the entire community can benefit and share news feed content. When a member visits another member’s profile they have access to view the news feeds of that member. Members have the option of subscribing to other members’ news feeds. For example, if a member accesses a feed from The Guardian and they want to subscribe to it, they simply click the subscribe button.

Tubman is named in Honor of Harriett Tubman

Harriett Tubman was Born into slavery in Maryland, Harriet Tubman (c. 1820 to March 10, 1913) escaped to freedom in the North in 1849 to become the most famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. Tubman risked her life to lead hundreds of family members and other slaves from the plantation system to freedom on this elaborate secret network of safe houses. A leading abolitionist before the American Civil War, Tubman also helped the Union Army during the war, working as a spy among other roles.
